Weds Mar 21st.

Well that looks like it.  Scott H. gave it a go yesterday a.m.   He did find spots and had to walk some, but the brutally hot weather the last five days has done its damage.
Always looking for a cold spell and one last snow storm, but maybe not this year.  More important would be weather getting back to normal so we have a reasonable summer.

Thanks to everyone.

Monday March 19th

Well the hard core showed up Sat. a.m. and Sun. a.m.  We had decent skating conditions on Sat. until around noon.  Sun. a.m. the trails had more dirt on them, so slower, but not bad considering the massive shot of hot air we had.

If it were to cool off later this week, I would drag the Main Road and we would be able to ski for another week or two.  But Mother Nature appears to be upset at all the CO2 in the air, so I am not hopeful.

So thanks for a great season.  A lot of new people showed up and we want you to come back next year.  We have seen a rise in local people coming in and the ski club is excited about that.  Give us your feed back, so next year we will be even better.

Still Skiing Sat Mar. 17

The temps have dropped overnight inland, so the trails should be good this a.m. despite the warm temps yesterday.  Several miles south it was down to 38F this a.m.  I set new track up Stairway and around the Y loop late yesterday.  Those came out great.

There should be some decent skiing this a.m. and hopefully the same tomorrow.  A lot of the regulars showed up yesterday, and had some great skiing, so don't miss today.

I will give some basic skate lessons between 10am and 1pm, so come on out and give it a try.

Friday March 16th

Temps were down into the mid 20's inland early this a.m., so things will be froze up until later this a.m.  However, temps are supposed to be warmer than yesterday, so by 9-10am there should be softer skiing.  I would like to get out and groom some this evening if it cools enough.  We look to be skiing Sat. a.m. also.  Definite Spring Conditions, so fast in spots, slow in others depending on the time of day and place on the trails.

Noon update:  A good showing of skiers this a.m. who reported great conditions.  We are hoping it will hold up tomorrow a.m.  The Lodge will be open.

STILL SKIING, STILL GROOMING!

I skated up D and around Y and W this a.m. about 9:30 a.m.  I skied around B at 11:45 a.m. and the skate lanes were still firm!  We have about an 8" base.  Even though the air temperature does not reach 32F overnight, the snow pack underneath cools down enough to freeze up the top.  It is not icy, but it does soften up enough by 9am to skate.  Classic tracks remain and Swanny sets some new track each day.  They do wash out some, but are surprisingly good for a day or so.

Come on out and ski.  Earlier the better.  I will drag the skate lanes early Sat. a.m., so come on up for a last ski.  We have no bare spots yet.

Weds. Mar 14th

Yes, Swanny was grooming yesterday morning!  Although temps had not gone below 32F overnight, the frozen ground and snow pack of 12" on top had frozen the surface.  So skating should still be good in the a.m.  He may set some more track again this a.m. as the warm temps wash them out later in the day.  You can still ski, so check us out.  Hoping to make it through the weekend.

Tues. Mar 13, 2012!

Yes, Swanny is out Grooming this a.m.  He will groom C, Y, A and D this a.m. and groom D, W, and A later in the afternoon.  So stay tuned.  There is snow to be skied on yet.

He will look at B trail this afternoon to see how it is holding up.  Usually the first curve before the bridge, which is in a low spot, gets soft, so we may need to close that off.

Monday Mar. 12th

Sat. and Sun. a.m. the skiing was fantastic.  So a number of people were able to enjoy that.

This a.m. the front came through with rain.  Swanny will look at the trails Tuesday a.m. and plans to do some grooming.  So I will update that.  He will still be putting in some classic tracks and smoothing the skate lanes where needed.  If we can survive this warm week, we will continue to groom on a limited basis after this week as we have a loyal group of locals who are not ready to hang them up.

Sat. Eve. Feb 10th

Skiing was good this a.m. before temps warmed around 1pm and things slowed.  Skate lanes were great in the a.m. and classic tracks were well formed.  No-wax was working the best.

Tomorrow a.m. we will drag the skate lanes so they should be in great shape in the a.m.  Classic should be in good shape, but if not we will be able to set some new ones.  Get there as early as you can, as the temps are going to rise again tomorrow a.m.

Sat. Feb 10th

28F this a.m.   Skate lanes and classic tracks will be in great shape this a.m.  The sun is coming out and temps shooting up this afternoon, but the snow should hold through early afternoon.  Temps going down to 30F tonight, so we can get out tomorrow to clean things up for Sunday skiing.
